Hope Emmanuel History

In the year 1983, I was twenty years old and serving uncle Sam in the U. S. military with no idea of Christian missions or of the true nature of the gospel of Jesus Christ, but all that was about to change. In 1984, at the encouragement of a Christian friend, I began to read in the New Testament. At the end of the year, God confronted me in His holiness and my sinfulness, in my despair, I got on my knees, confessed my sins and asked Jesus to forgive me, change my life, and use me.

A few years later while studying biblical Theology at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, the Lord called me to the ministry. My German wife, Barbara was very supportive of my calling being herself a gifted personal evangelist and Christian counselor. After Moody, the Lord guided us to Denver Seminary (Baptist) where I got further training and took classes pertaining to missions. It was also in Denver where the Lord prompted me to start preaching the gospel on a weekly basis, cross culturally.

Knowing that the Lord had called me to missions, I began to inform myself concerning the various mission agencies, but didn’t find a mission suitable to the vision God had given me, so, together with my wife and some supporting Christian friends, the new mission, Hope Worldwide (HWW) was founded (1997, and later changed to Hope Emmanuel in 2021). The then Denver Seminary preaching professor, Dr. James Means, was very helpful in the formative years in giving us guidance and coaching, which helped the mission get off the ground.

Using the book of Acts as a basic blueprint for missionary activity, Hope Emmanuel does not advertise, recruit, or control missionaries. The missionaries who have served or are serving have demonstrated solid biblical beliefs as well as clear evidence of a calling from God to preach the gospel cross culturally and the ability to work under the supervision of the Holy Spirit.

To date, seven missionaries have served with Hope Emmanuel. God has been faithful and gracious to us and has opened various doors of opportunity in countries such as; Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Germany, India, Israel, Thailand and Greece to name a few.

On a personal level it hasn’t always been an easy way. In 2004, after fighting cancer for three years, my wife Barbara went to be with the Lord. Our faithful Father stood by me and has even blessed me again with a valuable helpmate, Ludmila. Ludmila has accompanied me to India, Israel as well as other countries to serve in the Kingdom of God.

Thank you Lord Jesus, Lord of the harvest, for blessing us and we pray that you continue to guide and bless Hope Emmanuel according to your gracious nature and faithfulness to your command to “make disciples of all the nations”, Matt. 28, 19.

Thank you for your interest in our H.E., and Christian missions, please pray for us.
